The Ever-Expanding Journey of Motherhood

When my daughter Hailey turned one, I cried. I thought all of the “firsts” were now over.

I quickly realized how wrong I was.

Firsts happen all the time. Especially when kids are little, almost everything is a first. Adding Jeremy to our family created an entire new layer of joy, richness and firsts.

Also, I want to say that while firsts are very special, because they are markers of growth, we are pretty obsessed with peak experiences in our culture. The truth is that the continued evolving of a child is truly the most magical experience I have had in my life.

Motherhood continues to shape and mold me. Seriously, every day.

And even now, as my kids are grown and living their own lives, I am still having “first” experiences.

Because when we grow and change, we experience situations in completely new ways. For me, my parenting expanded to include all of the nervous system and embodiment work I have been doing over the past decade plus.

I don’t think parenting is ever “done.” Yet the way we parent does need to evolve. Because the entire purpose of having children is to raise them to be Who They Truly Are in the World — and to go out and live their lives…
