My Mary Poppins Bag

I have a Mary Poppins bag.

I like to say it’s my Magic Bag.

Because it has pretty much everything in it.

And it’s strangely bottomless.

I like to be prepared.

I like to have what I need.

Especially when I work at retreats or live courses.

It began long ago when my kids were little. Someone would always be hungry or thirsty, and I would whip out a sandwich or a snack, a juice box or even a whole meal. I 100% got this from my grandma, who always carried around hard boiled eggs — just in case.

The truth is — things happen, unexpected things come up and someone inevitably always needs something.

I can’t say I _always_ have the thing, but I very often do.

Medicine. Tissues. Protein bar. Tampons. Eye drops. Cough Drops. Tweezers. Pens. A Sharpie. Mints. Gum. Raw Organic Almonds. Water. Cash. Etc.

Note this is a very feminine energy — I often hear a voice that I should pop something into my bag, and it doesn’t make sense until some magic moment when it makes complete sense.

When I was assisting at a retreat recently, there was a gorgeous digestion happening with the women on day 3.

I mean, all the feels.

The kind of moment when someone is sharing something so beautiful and heartfelt, a transformation so wide and deep, that your heart explodes in the witnessing.

It’s the _WHY_ people attend retreats and transformational events in the first place. The HOPE they have for themselves. The whole reason they made the financial, energetic and time investment — for that HOPE, the VISION they can feel a glimpse of, and then they bravely follow it.

So back to the beautiful Day 3 digestion…

As the woman was expressing her opening we were all listening and reveling in her words. It was truly beautiful.

And just then, her giant cup of water accidentally tips and spills all over.

Drip

Drip

Drip

She gasped and interrupted herself to consider how to clean it, reaching for something…
