Speaking Your True Yes & No
Start noticing what your True Yes and No are to specific situations, and if your words and actions match that.
You can practice speaking your True Yes and No anywhere and everywhere— at work, in the coffee shop, with friends.
It’s fun — and a deeply personal practice with yourself, that ultimately ripples into every area of your life.
Last week, I was watching Netflix with my boyfriend and I realized I wanted a snack. I asked him to hit pause and told him I was hungry and getting a snack.
He asked if I could make him a snack, too?
I could feel my No, but I said Yes.
I realized this right away, and made a real-time adjustment.
I called out to him that I would rather him come in and make his own snack. He said okay.
As I spread my chunky peanut butter and jelly on rice cakes, I noticed he didn’t come in.
My thoughts went to : He isn’t coming in because he’s mad that I don’t want to make him a snack. I could have so easily made one extra rice cake with PB&J. I am a terrible partner.
I was honoring what my body told me and I didn’t want to make him a snack. There was no story about it, just pure truth.
